The student will demonstrate an understanding that history relates to
events and people of other times and places.

K and 1: These people stood up for what is right, what responsibilities do we have? Give examples of specific individuals and tell why they have caused change to occur.
K and 1: identify and describe famous individuals important to American history such as Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Martin Luther King Jr. and Christopher Columbus.

The student will describe how people, places, and things change over
time.

The student will describe and compare their current family structure
with others.
Example activities to teach these standards: Pictures of things from the past - pictures of telephones, baking changes with mix/homemade. Different generations and how we change. Watch Little House on the Prairie. We continue to change daily.

The student will demonstrate that the globes and maps are models of the
earth and are used to locate people, places, and things. (Maps)
Example activities to teach this standard: Google Earth website - DC, Bellwood, addresses. Map symbols/ directions. Student-made map of Bellwood/DC. Globe/Nebraska.

The student will recognize that climate, location, and physical
surroundings affect the lives of people.
(Seasons)
Example activities: Identify appropriate clothing, Weather, Seasons, Jobs, Foods, Sporting Activities

The student will identify uses of technology such as transportation and
communication.
Examples and activities: telephones, computers, ways of travel, email to another class, cell phones.

The student will plan and
implement a service learning project in the community.
Examples of possible activities: park cleanup day, sing @ the nursing home, pick up trash, write/draw picture for an elderly citizen, senior citizen meals, grandparents day/activity. Classroom rules, citizenship, How we work and play. Responsibilities of each family member. Veteran's program

symbols and actions.
K and 1:
Pledge of Allegiance, patriotic songs, US/Nebraska flags/symbols, President of
the U.S, Governor of Nebraska.
9 The student will identify basic economic
concepts.
K and 1 concepts and example activities: goods/services (K,
1), needs/wants (1), speakers from
different occupations(K, 1), exchanging of money for goods/services (1). Identify different types of jobs (K, 1).

The student will develop an awareness and be exposed to current
events.
K and 1 example activities: News 2 You, Weekly Reader, Banner Press, News Currents game.

awareness of various cultures around the world.
K and 1 example activities: Spanish class, countries of where students may be from, wars, Christmas customs, reading stories, dress and food comparisons
