Social Studies Standards and Curriculum

4th Grade

 

Themes 4 and 5 Culture and Human Environmental Interactions:

·         Students will describe the interaction between Native Americans and their environment on the plains prior to European contact.

·         Student s will describe the exploration of Nebraska by individuals and groups.

·         Students will describe Nebraska history, including geographic factors, from European contact to statehood.

Theme 4 Culture:

Students will describe the contributions from the cultural and ethnic groups that make up our national/individual heritage.

·         Identify famous Nebraskans and their contributions to Nebraska and/or the United States.

·         Identify cultural/ethnic backgrounds of family heritage.

·         Explain the importance of migration patterns to the development and settlement of Nebraska.

·         Explain the significance of state, national, world holidays.

Theme 5 Human Environmental Interactions:

Students will identify the geographic and human characteristics of the Midwest and West regions of the United States.

 

Theme 1: Power and Governance:

·         Students will identify and describe the responsibilities of our state government and elected officials.

Theme 6 Impact of Economic Systems:

·         Students will identify the various economic choices used throughout the United States.

·         Describe the major ways people of Nebraska earn a living.

·         Describe the factors of production. (Human, natural, capital resources and entrepreneur).

Process Skill:

·         Students will identify and use essential map elements, as well as showing that maps represent physical locations.

·         Students will read a weekly age appropriate periodical  to be aware of events around them.
