Changes in Technology and Transportation

·        Students will describe how advancements in technology have changed agriculture and manufacturing in Nebraska. 

·        Students will list the modes of transportation used by local industries to acquire raw materials and to distribute products, and describe how transportation has changed over time.

·        Compare and contrast daily life in our local area from the past to the present.

 

National Symbols

·        Students will identify national symbols (eagle, Liberty Bell, Presidential Seal, US flag, Statue of Liberty, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, Iwo Jima, WWII Memorial. Tomb of the Unknowns/Arlington Cemetery, White House)

·        Students will explain the history and significance of national symbols.

 

Famous Americans

·        Students will identify and describe the contributions of famous Americans.

 

Citizenship

·        Students will demonstrate citizenship by participating in community service projects. 

·        Students will write about a complete service project.  (LA 4.2.2)

 

Map Skills/Southwest Region

·        Students will locate the states in the Southwestern Region on a map.

·        Students will identify landforms, cultural aspects, significant cities, economics, and famous people from the region. 

·        Students will demonstrate knowledge in using a map grid system, a compass rose, a map key, and a map scale.

Current Events/Multicultural

·        Students will read a weekly age-appropriate periodical to be aware of current events.

 

Cultures Around the World

·        Students will describe location, climate, landforms, government, materials, education, arts and recreation, transportation, family structure, and national holidays of various countries around the world.
